About me

Hi there! I’m David and I am at the helm of Joyage. I’ve been a photographer for more than thirty years, since building a darkroom in my parents’ house and learning—slowly—what it means to capture light and joy.

I’ve spent decades immersed in outdoor pursuits that demand extensive preparation and logistics—self-supported ultra-running, paragliding, ice and rock climbing, whitewater rafting, paddleboarding, bikepacking, mountain biking. These experiences have always been about navigating remarkable landscapes, finding perspective in big efforts, and charting out a mental map of incredible backcountry locales.

Over the last five years, I’ve gone even deeper into overland and van-based travel, charting routes from British Columbia to Baja and everything in between—linking quiet roads, remote camps, sunrise trailheads, hot springs, and overlooked places into journeys that feel both adventurous and deeply cared for. Planning these trips for family and friends—thinking through flow, comfort, safety, and pacing—is truly one of my greatest joys.

Joyage exists at the intersection of all of this. It draws on decades of photography, broad experience in wild places, and a safety-first approach grounded in Wilderness First Responder training. What I bring to this work isn’t just a camera—it’s the ability to hold the whole experience: the logistics, the pacing, the emotional weight of the day, so you don’t have to.

Big outdoor experiences—whether a slot canyon exploration or a slow overland journey—are as much about restoration and quiet beauty as they are about challenge, and I design elopements and weddings the same way. I don’t direct moments; I pay attention to them. If you’re looking for someone to stage a wedding, there are many great options. If you’re looking for someone to walk with you through an experience, adapt when things change, and witness it honestly, that’s where I work best.
